Apart from the foundations that are believed to be remnants from a cannon foundry from Christian IV’s time, the house was listed as a fireproof styled house from 1738 with several additions through the years of the 1700 century. In 1847 the renovation and furnishing for the art craft business was made, which there still are significant parts preserved by. The old family business I.G. Schwartz and Son (founded in 1801 by Johan Georg Scwartz) has coincided with his son, J.A. Schwartz joining the firm, refurbished the entire building for retail and office purposes and the back building Pilestræde 40C as a workshop. The workshop produced finer works of ivory, turtle shells etc. like chess pieces, umbrella handles, etc.. In 1837, on the son’s trip to Paris (where he may have met Tivoli’s founder, Georg Carstensen) and London the son probably gathered ideas for a modern refurbishment of his father’s business and the project was headed by architect H.C. Stilling, who among other things had designed several of Tivoli’s buildings. The reconstruction included the adding a floor to the house, new entryway, storefront and interior. Read more

In the design of new apron to Tuborgs old administration building, one of the pillars portal was moved five meters. The pillars weigh 21 tons and it took half an hour to move it.
