WORKING METODE

WORKING METODE

Bertelsen & Scheving Architects have two work modes:
• as specialists
• as dialogue partners
All partners and employees can operate in either work mode. As specialists our focus is on historic and listed building restoration and renovation, as well as new building projects in cultural and historical contexts, with The Heritage Agency of Denmark as the ultimate managing authority.

As specialists in the field, we work according to the project planning systems ordinarily used in our profession. We have many years of experience working with pictorial artists. Sometimes we develop the project in close dialogue while at other times we act as the architectural consultants for the building phase itself.

In a dialogue process, we facilitate all work phases and also propose a project solution using our own creative tools.

For dialogue projects, we put together teams as required by the nature of the project. Everyone and no one is an expert in these types of projects. Everyone invited can make suggestions, and the ideas of the youngest assistant carry as much weight as those of the most experienced manager. The project is king.

What we want to emphasise when we say we operate in two work modes is that each process requires different skills. Imagination and open curiosity drive dialogue projects, while professional precision and plenty of legwork are key to
architectural projects. Our point is that we can do both. Read more

PROFIL

We think of ourselves as craftsmen who establish construction principles, designing spaces and environments that make users feel welcome, cared for, and comfortable. We like to surprise, astound and entertain users as well. But we never frighten them by adopting principles so radical that the human element is lost.

We are always on the lookout for the artistic element in architect, but we know it cannot be planned or forced. It emerges on the site, in the situation, a synthesis of all the other efforts. We think of building as a fusion of regulations, user requirements, budget, ordinary constructions, craftsmanship and cooperative solutions – what we call ‘straightness’.

Therefore one of the priorities we set for ourselves and our employees is to be responsive to all these elements. We want to be able to communicate positively and constructively with all the participants in the process from the client to the advisers and workers. Our goal is a cooperative effort rather than a ’street fight’.

That is why we often work in innovative expert teams selected for a specific project (artists, PR professionals, developers, engineers, landscape architects, negotiators, scenographers, cinema people, IT experts, etc.). Everyone on the team works on an equal footing and is equally important to the final product.
